Maurie’s rating system (a practical simplification):

 

Wines are commonly scored on a scale of 100. Only the most exceptional make it into the 90’s.

 

8 = If it is scored by one or more of the leading authorities in the 80’s and has one or more awards and I agree.

9 = If it is scored by one or more of the leading authorities in the 90’s and I agree. Usually this is an award-winning wine as well.  It may just be a personal favorite.

 

If I have not rated a wine it is either because:

1.      I have not tried it personally or

2.      I have tried it and don’t feel deserves a score of 80 or more.

 

Look for wines that have low costs to high rating for best value. There are wines listed that are $ or $$ with very high ratings, and these are my personal favorites for value.  I have marked them “BB” for Best Buy.

 

Remember, if I have not sampled it I have not yet scored it.  You are on your own.  Discovery is part of the adventure.
